Boo-tiful!

Eye-Eye Captain Addison!

This is not only one of Addison's favorite words these days (poking her own, or mine as she says it!) but it's also the name of the TOOTH that is bothering her to no end, however it's spelled "I" for incisor. It began on Wednesday at story time at the library. I made the mistake of sitting in the front row, and as teacher Bernice said "Would you like to hear a story about a frog?" Addison yelled from the top of her lungs "NOOOOOOOOO!" I was completely mortified, but luckily the 40 other moms in the room were chuckling, as was the teacher. This was the start of Addison's encounters with her emerging I-teeth. She proceeded to roll around the floor, whining, and not participating in the songs and rhymes like she usually does. Nightmare. We then went to Toddler Group, and she just wasn't herself. She was whiny and clingy, which is not normal for her, especially when there is so much stimulation and FUN at toddler group! My mom friends even noticed that she was out of character. We came home and I gave her Motrin and put her down for a nap. She seemed to be better when she woke up, and had a fairly good evening. Then 2:20 AM came, and I heard her hysterical in her room, crying and extremely upset. I gave her more Motrin and she fell back asleep. Whew! Today was much better, and I can see the tooth poking through, so maybe we're in the clear for a bit.

We are leaving for Maui in a few days, and I need the teething issues to PAUSE for 7 days so we can enjoy our trip! I don't think it works that way. :(

More updates: 19 months is a challenge! Addison is easily frustrated these days. For example: Putting lids on containers. If she can't master it, she immediately screams a high-pitch BAT SCREAM and flails her body onto the ground, kicking and crying. Seriously? What's this all about? I know it's hard to be 19 months and the world is so exciting and new, but come on! I'm losing hearing out of my right ear because of some of these bat screeches!

New Words: Sammie (my parent's dog) but it sounds like this: "Am-mee" and she YELLS it, while clicking/kissing her mouth, calling to the dog. So cute!

Fall (combined with Uh-Oh) so she says "Uh-Oh Fall" when something falls, usually when she chucks her sippy cup on the floor when we're in the car.

She's also singing a ton, and she's starting to fill in the blanks when I sing a song and leave out the last word. I'm quite impressed with this one, since this is a skill that we teach in school (addition/deletion of sounds and words) and it's so cool to see it applied to an earlier stage of development!

We're all moved in to my parent's house, no more moving for a few months! Yay!

Lotion Anyone?

Addison loves "squirting" lotion into our hands. Daddy taught her how to make "squirting" noises. Thanks, Daddy. ;)

Uh-Oh Mama!

This is Addison's latest. Everything is "Uh-Oh Mama! Uh-Oh!" She points to things and says it, even if nothing is wrong! I'm wondering if she's noticing if something is "out of place" and trying to point it out? The exciting part of this new language is that she's using 2-word phrases! This is a new development! She's also extremely into Nana's cats, and her word for cat is "Ah-kee." She's been saying this for quite some time now, and we've always thought she was saying "Yucky." But now we've figured it out....duh!

The other latest development is the MELTDOWNS. We've had several recently, in public places, that have given new meaning to the TERRIBLE TWOS. And she's not even two yet. Yeesh. I took her to Big 5 Sports to have her try on a life jacket (we're going to Maui soon, and I'm panicked about the pool/ocean etc) and my first mistake was taking her there in the first place. My second mistake was putting her down on the floor and letting her try it on. She loved it, and was so proud standing there all zipped up in this new jacket. However, when Mama unzipped and pulled it off, let the shrieking begin! Boneless, on the ground...you get the picture. I picked her up and carried her out of the store, as she kicked, screamed and flailed. I was sweating bullets by the time I got her strapped in the car seat, which was also another nightmare in itself.

The second meltdown was in the library yesterday. I can't believe I took her into the QUIET library. What was I thinking? I just needed to pick up a book I had on hold. Quick, right? Well, I ran into a mom from our Baby Group, and we started chatting, and Addison got impatient. When I tried to pick her up to put her on my hip and head out, she didn't want to leave, and laid flat on the ground, screaming, right in the major walkway of the Kirkland Library. Just shoot me now.
So....from now on when we shop or go in public places, I'm going to strap her in her Scootababy carrier, or put her in the shopping cart, or stroller. Until she can learn some manners (ha!) she is going to be strapped down. :) I know, what kind of mom am I? :) A naive one, that's who!

Checking in...

It's been awhile since I've posted anything...we've been super busy lately! I can't believe it's already October. Where did September go? It feels like we just moved in with Nana! We'll be here for about another week, and then we'll be packing up and moving in with my folks. It's been a tight squeeze at Nana's and I'm sure she'll be ready to have her place back to herself!
Addison has been tons of fun lately, full of expression, new words, and lots of silliness! This is such a fun age. I'm in shock that she's already 18 months old. My friend Joy just had her second child on Sunday, sweet little Penelope! Maguire is now a big brother! I saw Penelope for the first time today, and I was in awe at how tiny she is. It's hard to think back to when Addison was that little. Addison was really cute when she saw Penelope, she said "BABY!
We're absolutely LOVING our toddler group class on Wednesdays, it's the best part of our week. Addison would whole-heartily agree! Today she decided to paint at the easel, about 3-4 times, and the funny part is that I was attending the parent ed. session while a couple of other moms were watching Addison. Those poor moms...I kept seeing them trying to lure Addison away from the easel, to no avail. Finally I just went over there, picked her up and dragged her to another area. Green paint was everywhere....and Addison wasn't happy, but it wasn't a good time to be painting!
I have pictures and video to post, but the cord is in Addison's room right now, and I don't want to fumble around in there looking for it.
