Sneaky Eater!

Tonight as I was feeding Addison dinner, she was being very finicky and tossing her food from her tray. I was trying to cajole her into eating by zooming pieces like an airplane into her mouth, which typically works with her. However tonight she wouldn't have anything to do with it, and I caught her taking her food and stuffing it under her legs and bottom! I thought this was a trick that kids learn at a much later age, trying to avoid eating broccoli!
More updates:
Addison has been coughing since we returned from the cruise. It's been over two weeks at this point. She also started gagging herself with her fingers, which we thought was very strange. Sometimes babies gag themselves on accident, by exploring in their mouths and then putting their fingers a little bit too far back and causing the gag reflex. But this was happening a couple of times a day, coupled with the coughing. My gut told me that something was up, and Addison was trying to tell us something. I took her to the pediatrician, and he said that she has some throat irritation due to acid reflux, most likely from the new foods we fed her on the cruise, and the big change in routine. He prescribed her the liquid form of Zantac, to help "reset her stomach." This medication has been a huge challenge...she HATES it! We had to take it back to the pharmacy to have them put a flavoring in, and she still acts as if we're trying to feed her hot lava! I think the coughing is slowing down, and she's not gagging herself anymore. Relief!
She also has a new tooth coming in, her upper left incisor. That makes six teeth so far. Her smile is changing!
Another big change over the last few days is that it's looking more and more like we will have a WALKER in the house sooner than later! Addison is getting very comfortable on her feet, crusing all around on the furniture and taking more and more risks. I've been thinking that she's going to walk around 15-16 months, and maybe I'm wrong! She's very proud of her new abilities!

Hi there,

Madison has had to take Zantac before (along with lots of other yucky liquids) and we have found a couple of little tricks that have worked well. We found that syringes aimed at the back of the cheek pocket worked better than droppers, cups or syringes straight back in the throat (caused gagging). Another big hit was putting the measured amount of medicine into a dosing cup or dosing spoon and using a straw (I like the little juice box ones) to let her suck it down. That way it is a bit of a novelty and it also helps to bypass the tastebuds.

I hope that this helps! We didn't find the pharmacy flavorings to help at all either. :0)

Take care,
Casey
