Last Saturday Addison had an allergic reaction to either hummus or tuna. She's had hummus quite a few times before, but the tuna was new. She had quite a few bites of the hummus, but only a couple of tiny bites from my tuna sandwich. After lunch (about 10 minutes after her last bite of the tuna) she started fussing and coughing. I looked at her face and she had welts all along her jawline, and her lips and chin looked slightly swollen and red. Soon after, she threw up. I called the Dr.'s 24 hour hotline and they said to take her to the ER immediately. Chris drove us so fast to the ER, I thought for sure we were going to be pulled over! When we got to the ER, her welts were starting to calm down and she was doing better. We were there for 2 hours, and they ended up giving her Benedryl and some sort of steroid. They instructed us to make an appointment with an Allergist to see exactly what it is that she's allergic to. Fish? Or was it something in the hummus like the tahini? We have an appt. scheduled for next Monday. Not soon enough for me, but it was the best they could do.
She's completely back to herself now, in fact she's been WILD these last few days! Maybe the reaction set off some wild side of her! She's continuing to walk, and getting very good at it! However she prefers to still scoot, because she can get places much faster that way. We're finally having to baby-proof our cabinets and drawers because she's now starting to open them. She was never interested before!
She's also been especially clingy to me, which is getting old because when Chris is in the same room (or Nana, or my mom) she won't leave me alone and demands to be held or right by my side. I'm hoping it's a short-lived phase because Mommy needs a break once in awhile!

Oh no! Poor Addison! I know I get crazy hives when I have too many sulfites (or meds with sulfa) ... blue cheese, wine, even one major outbreak from raw tuna (yummy sashimi). I've read about sulfites in canned tuna which have gone undelcared. Maybe Addison has an alergy similar to mine?
