Sesame Scare

Today Addison had a couple of bites of my sandwich at Toddler Group, and then it hit me. I saw a sunflower seed in the bread and I thought to myself, YIKES, is this multi-grain bread? I ran and read the label, and sure enough, SESAME SEEDS were labeled as an ingredient. Luckily, she only had 2 small bites of the bread, so the exposure was minimal. She didn't have a rash or hives, no coughing, and she seemed normal. I immediately asked a mommy-friend in our class for her opinion on what to do, as she has a child with some severe food allergies. She said to give her Benedryl immediately. So I gave her a dose, and we continued to watch her. No reaction. Whew! We came home and I put her down for a nap, and I watched her like a hawk on the video monitor (what a cool thing to have, btw!) and she slept like a rock for 2 hours. I'm sure that had something to do with the Benedryl!
I'm annoyed with myself for overlooking the ingredients today...what a ditzy thing for me. I'm usually over-vigilant about this. I guess the good that came out of it is maybe her allergy is lessening and we'll have good news when we have her tested again in August. :)

As if you don't have enough on your mind! Sometimes we just go through the motions and you were doing the right thing by feeding her a litte bite! I am impressed by your reaction because I probably would have freaked out! Hopefully the allergy is lessoning so you can give her bites of your sandwich without worry! Oh, the things Moms have to worry about!
