Mystery

After my 20 week appointment, the doctor still detected the infamous UTI that I've been dealing with since week 8 of my pregnancy. I was soooooo annoyed, and I'm sick of going on antibiotics. She agreed that we're going to stay off the antibiotics for now, and she recommended that I make an appt. with a urologist. She got in touch with a urologist that she likes, discussed my case, and he agreed to see me. This urologist is highly sought after, as when I tried to make an appt, the receptionist said "He's booked until August!" Luckily, my OB pulled some strings and I was able to get in to see him on Tuesday.
After meeting with the urologist, it was clear that he was baffled. The bacteria that is showing up is not a common bacteria found in most UTI's (proteus miribilus) and I have no symptoms. Also, why didn't the 3 rounds of antibiotics that I've been on get rid of it? Since the ultrasound of my kidneys detected no stones, he ordered some more blood work, and another urine culture. The blood work is to see if I have diabetes. I can't imagine that I do, it's not in my family, and I have absolutely ZERO symptoms. If the urine culture comes back positive for the bacteria, he's going to have me go on 2 weeks of antibiotics (Keflex) which will hopefully get rid of it. I asked him why we can't just let this be, since I have no symptoms. He said that this is not a kind of bacteria that is safe to just "sit there and continue to colonize" and it could lead to a kidney infection, and worse case scenario, pre-term labor. Not what I wanted to hear.
My results will be in on Friday, so I will know more then.
Other than this pesky result that keeps popping up every time I pee in a cup, I'm feeling GREAT! I have tons of energy, and no aches and pains. I'm doing a yoga class twice a week, and I'm positive that's why I'm feeling so good. I had tons of SI joint pain with my first pregnancy, and this time I have absolutely NONE. Knock on wood! Chasing a toddler is probably keeping me in shape too, I don't have time to sit or think about aches and pains!
I'm feeling tons of kicks and punches, and he's sitting right on my bladder which is interesting! Lots of trips to the bathroom!
I'll post a "UTI update" on Friday.

So crazy! I suppose it is a good thing that they found the bacteria but it would be so weird to have it and not feel it! I hope it all works out and you can get rid of this thing. I will check back in with you on Friday to hear how things went. I would love to see a belly shot of you! It is so cool you are having a little boy!
