My, What Sharp Teeth You Have!

This has been my response to Addison after our latest nursing sessions. Yes, she's biting me. And sometimes it's with a sly grin on her face after she's done it! Little stinker! We're down to one morning nursing right when she wakes up, and a couple of "light snacks" during the day. For the last few days, she's started biting me towards the end of her nursing sessions. Have you ever felt a baby's new teeth? They're like sharp little daggers. Imagine THAT clenching down in such a sensitive area! Sooooo...I'm very tentative to nurse, to say the least!
I called the breastfeeding center today, and spoke with a lactation consultant who helped me understand that this is a behavioral issue that needs to be nipped, no pun intended. :) She said that when I notice Addison slowing down towards the end of her nursing, I need to pop her off and stop the nursing. If she actually bites me, then I need to stop her, look her straight in the eye and say in a stern voice "Addison, that hurts Mommy. You don't bite Mommy." Then here's the kicker. I need to set her down, and walk out of the room! She needs to understand that when she does that to me, this is the reaction she'll get each time. Of course she'll cry, and after a minute or two I will come back and comfort her. We'll see how this goes...I haven't had the chance to test it out yet. She didn't bite me this afternoon, but I could feel it coming, so I didn't give her the chance! We shall see.
